The Silvestre Technique…
The Foundations of the Silvestre Technique are found in the gestures and mythology of the dances of the Orixa. These are connected with the four elements of nature; the chakras; and the three triangles of the body (red is the roots, purple is visualization, and yellow is projection). Together (dances of the Orixa, four elements of Nature, Chakras and the Three Triangles), they provide the expression and interpretation of the exercises.
The training works with the body structure (skeleton, muscles, joints, etc.) in order to develop the skills and the language of the technique.
The process of study can happen as a group or individually, and it takes as its basis the study and analysis of each of the basic sequences and their functionality for corporal development. These exercises activate the work of toning, flexibility, and joint mobility following the study and the symbolism of the gestures, in such a way that they activate interpretation and expressiveness; thereby, giving meaning to the movement. It is knowing how to express what is danced, using the body as a technically trained vehicle for that expression.
If you are interested in contacting dancers who have been training the Silvestre Technique visit our Link page for more information. The main place for training is Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Classes for all levels are offered year round.
Each January, a large number of students go to Salvador to participate in special classes given by Rosangela that culminate in a performance. There are many performances, ceremonies, festivals and other cultural events for students to experience the richness of the culture of Bahia.
In addition to the training offered in Salvador, Rosangela regularly travels to many locations to provide opportunities for local training. Please check her schedule or contact her if you are interested in planning classes in your area.
